If it works for Kim, then it can work for me too. That’s right, I’m using the random word generator (that I found, I’ll have you know).
Well actually, I tried using it earlier, but nothing sparked. So now I’ve come back to it, and it has given me inspiration for yet another random blog. The word:
Carpet.
Ah yes, the carpet. I’ve had many an incident with carpets, so here we go. Some of the memorable ones involve the most recent green carpet, which is in our living room, dining room and on the landing and stairs, hence the title.
The most memorable one that comes to mind is Christmas, a few years ago. I was allowed a small glass of port, as my parents allow me to drink a small amount of alcohol at home, in the hope that I don’t go out and get drunk off my face. Anyway, I was sitting in the living room with some cheese and the glass of port at my side, watching Christmas telly, and (you can just see this one coming) being my clumsy self, I knocked over rather expensive old port onto a rather expensive new carpet. My my, was I popular. Obviously Mum’s first reaction was “oh s*&$, the carpet will stain”, so out came the array of cleaning products, meaning mum was there scrubbing for a good quater of an hour. Luckily for me, the carpet wasn’t stained and I’ve just about lived to tell the tale.
I hope I’m not alone in saying that I was one of those who liked to sit at the top of the carpeted stairs and slide down on my bum, which was made all the more exciting if you were bring chased by the dog. Whether I’m alone in this wierd act, I don’t know, but it was very good fun at the time, and if I’m honest, still is.
There are also fond memories of the dogs and the stairs, as they often provide great entertainment for puppies and old knackers alike.
Another memory I can rekindle is that of when the carpet was being taken out of the hallway to be replaced by oak flooring. Mum and Dad insisted on doing it themselves, which they managed eventually. Of course, being about 8 at the time, the best thing to do was to get the slippiest pair of socks I could find and slide up and down. This was great fun, and still is, as you’ll often catch me whizzing into the kitchen in this rather uncontrolled manner. Anyhow, whilst discovering the best slippy spots, I managed to run over a splinter, which caused a piece of wood about an inch long to be pulled up. It was noticeable, and undertstandably Mum was angry; however, the more important issue was how to make sure that Dad didn’t see this small chunk of his hard work missing. I can’t remember how we did it, but it has remained undetected in the middle of the hallway to this day.
I’m sure that there are many more incidents with carpets to recall, and there will be many more to come, I hope. You never know, you may have even been lucky enough to tread upon those very floors.
I do enjoy your blogs. They are written very well.
