“Yes, Despite the Dress, You Can Use Your Credit Card Mr. Hamilton”

That’s right. Get ready for another puzzling thought.

And yet again (rather worryingly?) I’m talking about gender switching.

Somehow, in this wierd head of mine, the thought of a program I watched a few weeks ago came up. It was about a Paratrooper, Ian Hamilton, who had a sex change after believing that he had a female brain. If I’m honest, it was quite interesting, seeing the horrific social reaction to this (his parents disowned him), the state of this man’s fiancé and the fact that after the surgery, Jan (Ian’s new name) could look back on Ian as a totally different person, almost taking it to the extreme of his fiancé and pretending that Ian had died. On the other hand however, I felt quite sorry for him in a way, because its quite sad that to be content he had to go to these quite extreme measures, including having this painful surgery and having all his social ties cut. I also just did some Googling and found that Jan wants to adopt a child, now that she’s a “fully fledged woman”.

Anyway, that thought led me to wonder what would happen in terms of your legal status in the UK? I mean, for example, take an every day shop, where Jan produces her credit card:
[*Hands over credit card*]
“Mr. Hamilton?”
“No…”
“But your card says that you are Mr. Hamilton?”
“Well you see, I went to Thailand and had this surgery done…”

Anyhow, I did some more Googling (I may delete my browsing history after this…) to find that:
“The Gender Recognition Act, which gained royal assent earlier this month, will allow them to gain the legal status of their acquired gender, change their birth certificates and marry.”
So it appears that doing the weekly shop wouldn’t be so difficult after all…

On other news, I must pay my respects to Mark Speight, who was found dead at Paddington Station yesterday morning. As a young child, SMart was one of the more creative programs that I watched, and if I’m honest, Mark was the best presenter of the lot; Kirsten always did my head in with her annoying voice and large gob, Jay was just odd, what with his leaf art and everything, and I was never too sure about that curly haired one. And besides, he did the coolest cartoon shazzamanazz. R.I.P.

Oh, and I should mention that its my birthday tomorrow. Not that it’s that exciting, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
